My guide to heroes (2024)

Intro[]

Recently, I've seen a lot of hero comparison polls on the discussion page. So, here I will talk about the best heroes to use. (do not search online for hero wars tier lists, they are outdated and wrong)

If you want to ask other experienced players for their opinions, join the HW discord here.

Tanks[]

Tanks are heroes that focus on defense. They shield the team from damage. Here are the best tanks:

  1. Aurora: Versatile tank and can fit in all teams. With high level, she dodges almost all physical damage. She can also counter magic damage too, by her violet skill. Can deal damage too. Recommended patron pet is Cain.
  2. Astaroth: The most versatile tank in the game. Resurrection ability really helps, and best as a meat tank with high health and defense stats.
  3. Corvus: Ideal for an Undead team, though can fit in other teams too. Altar of Souls ability counters Yasmine, Heidi and other fast-hitting heroes.
  4. Rufus: Great for magic damage, as he can convert any taken to healing. Almost never dies against Pure or Magic heroes with his resurrection skill. Though he only does it to himself, he can do it multiple times.

Chabba and Cleaver are decent, but not the best;

Galahad and Ziri are horrible. Do not use.

Damage Dealers (DDs)[]

Damage Dealers refer to heroes that are focused on dealing damage. They are usually Warriors, Marksmen or Mages. I will introduce the best here. Others which are not specified are not ideal or at most, decent.

Pure damage[]

  1. Heidi: If you are looking for a pure damage dealer, Heidi is the best choice. Can dodge almost every attack (even magic and pure!) with his violet skill and high dodge stat. Also deals high AoE damage.
  2. Maya: Though she is labelled a healer, healing isn't really what she excels at, so not recommended for healer. However, she can deal high pure damage.
  3. Jhu: Deals both Physical and Pure damage, and is the best marksman in-game. Great for bosses as pure damage depends on enemy's health.

Physical damage[]

  1. Dante: Spears deal huge damage, and has high dodge stat, so that's a bonus. Currently the meta damage dealer for physical.
  2. K'arkh: Best paired with Faceless, as K'arkh's skill damages enemies in the air, which Faceless can do. Can stun and block damage too. As good as Dante.
  3. Iris: Her physical skills are based on Magic Attack, an unique ability. All 4 of her skills are great and deal massive amounts of damage.

Magic Damage:[]

Warning: Magic Damage is usually not the best kind of damage available, as it is countered by Rufus and Isaac, both great heroes. But if you really want to use Magic, here are the best:

  1. Celeste: A dual Healer and Mage, excels at both. Best for manual play, as you can convert her to Light Form when you need healing, and dark form when you need damage. Basic attack becomes magic damage at Violet, and is great. Can block enemies' healing too, making them more vulnerable
  2. Krista and Lars: Requires a lot of investment, but great damage dealers. Only viable as a pair.

There are too many Damage Dealers to list here, but others not listed are usually mediocre.

Support[]

Support are heroes who help other heroes.

  1. Nebula: Helps all damage dealers, can heal and remove negative effects, can reduce enemies' energy, and can deal damage. A great support.
  2. Sebastian: Removes negative effects and also buffs Critical Hit heroes. Causes extra pure damage too.
  3. Isaac: The best magical counter, good damage amount, shields allies (ignore that he is an engineer)

Healers[]

Healers provide healing.

  1. Martha: All-around best healer. Also very tanky and can cause timeouts
  2. Dorian: Grants vampirism (meaning that heroes surrounding him can heal themselves) and does not require investment, just needs violet skill maxed. Can die and still function.

Conclusion[]

To wrap it all up, a team generally needs a Tank (not necessarily a real tank), a main DD, a support or two (or a second DD), and a healer.

Though all the heroes mentioned above are great, you should not randomly put them together and you should find a group of heroes that work well together (having synergy).

Hope this guide helps!

What is the ''worst'' hero? The Admiral Brickell purely coz it's too map dependant/situational. Gwen is fire. If I had to give it to anyone it's Brickell because she can't be used everywhere and the water choices on a lot of maps don't let you utilize her fully.
