MBA Online Admission Requirements

A portfolio approach is used in evaluating prospective students for acceptance into the MBA program. Factors considered for admission include:

  • Complete online application and pay $40 non-refundable application fee
    • If you are an NKU alum or active/veteran military member, your application fee will be waived
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) coursework from accredited institutions with a minimum undergraduate overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5
    • Applicants with an undergraduate overall GPA under 3.0 must have three years of professional work experience
  • Current resume
  • International applicants must achieve a TOEFL iBT (or equivalent) score of at least 80 or an IELTS score of at least 6.5; score must be submitted to the NKU Office for International Students and Scholar Services

For the Master of Business Administration online program, students must complete a total of 33 credit hours. These include eight essentials courses (16 credit hours), 12 credit hours of stacks specialization courses, and five credit hours for a capstone project.

This course will introduce students to cybersecurity concepts and provide an overview of the field, including both social and technical topics. It provides a broad coverage of authentication, access control, application security, vulnerabilities, malware, risk management, basic cryptographic concepts, social engineering, security policies, and legal and ethical issues in cybersecurity.

Students will learn web security, security standards-SSL/TLS, and SET, intruders and viruses, PGP and S/MIME for electronic mail security, firewalls, IDS secret key and public/private key cryptography, hashes and message digests, authentication systems (Kerberos), digital signatures and certificates, Kerberos and X.509v3 digital certificates. Hands-on labs and exercises are used to reinforce lectures and provide practical experience.

Students will learn cloud infrastructure and technologies used in cloud computing. Students will use cloud services (compute, networking, storage) to build IT systems in the cloud. Hands-on labs will show students how to use CLI (Command Line Interface) to manage cloud services.

This course covers the design and development of business intelligence systems (data warehouses and data marts, for example). Dimensional models will be developed and implemented in an enterprise system. Students gain a working knowledge of business intelligence systems with hands on labs and an applied project.

LAW 985: Digital Privacy and Security

The exponential and infinite proliferation of bigdata raises both privacy and security issues, as the sensitive information ofindividuals, organizations, and governments are collected and stored onlinewhere it can be hacked or misused without authorization. This course willexplore the developing, complex web of laws, national and international, thatgovern data privacy and cybersecurity. More specifically, it will examine thelimitations of the existing legal framework and consider the policy implicationsof greater regulation of data collection over the Internet and the evolvingInternet of Things.

LAW 994: Emerging Technologies and the Law I

Today’sworld is on the brink of a fourth industrial revolution, the DigitalRevolution, with ever-emerging technologies transforming life in the 21st century—connectingbillions of people through the internet; improving access to goods andservices; and redefining commerce, education, governance, and theworkplace. This course focuses upon the legal needs ofentrepreneurs and their startups. While successful startups may require helpwith complex legal drafting and transactions—to obtain financing, issue shares,go public, or sell the company—entrepreneurs and lawyers that represent themrequire general knowledge of many areas of the law. The course will considersome of the expertise that a lawyer must acquire to counsel startups, exploreways that attorneys can better understand these unique clients and develop apractice to serve them, and introduce entrepreneurs, or those who may want tobecome entrepreneurs, to legal issues common to creating and running a startup.

MKT 620: Marketing Strategy

Pre-req MKT 605. Successful businesses evaluate their various environments and forge sustainable competitive advantages in the marketplace. It is critical to create a long-term strategy that builds, maintains, and ultimately grows market position. This course focuses on the evaluation of extant strategies and the creation and justification of alternative marketing strategies.

MKT 621: Consumer Behavior and Insights

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Pre-req MKT 620. The primary focus of the course is to explore the consumer path to purchase by studying the physical, physiological, social, and cognitive models and theories of consumer behavior.

MKT 622: Marketing Analytics

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Pre-req MKT 620. To properly design and engage marketing strategies, managers today need to understand the role that big data plays in the marketplace. In this course, you will be provided real-life examples of data and asked to develop and apply the appropriate insights needed to make a business decision.

Project Management Stack

MGT 635: Designing for Project Success

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Prepares students to initiate a project by learning the processes of creating a Project Charter, understanding resources, the scope of the project, scheduling and estimating costs. It will prepare them to develop the project phases and a communication plan. The students will also review processes of Agile Project Management.

MGT 636: Planning and Managing a Project for Success

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Prepares students to organize, plan, manage and lead a project. Emphasis on understanding the process of team building, team motivation and ethics. The goal is to increase the student’s probability of success to create a shared vision, to overcome obstacles, and to meet or exceed the customer’s quality specifications.

MGT 637: Managing and Leading a Project Strategically

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Prepares students to establish and implement best practices and maintain standards related to project management such as monitoring and controlling, planning and execution

Capstone Courses

Students must take the following courses, totaling five credit hours, as part of the MBA practicum.

MBA 610: Comprehensive MBA Essentials Review

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

Prerequisites: MGT 605, ACC 610, FIN 605, MGT 607, MGT 610, MBI 600, MKT 605, BUS 605. Review and testing on MBA Essentials topics in Finance, Accounting, Management, Marketing, and Operations in preparation for MBA 611.

MBA 611: MBA Capstone

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 3

Prerequisite: MBA 610. This course is the final part of the MBA capstone. The coursework involves examining a business case with a team. The readings encompass a wide variety of topics covered in the MBA Program.

MKT 630: Professional Selling

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

This course explores strategic sales principles, customer-centric selling, managing global accounts, and leveraging technology for enhanced performance. Prerequisite: MKT 605.

MKT 631: Sales Technology and Analytics

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

This course explores sales strategy based on metrics. Platforms likeSalesForce.com, KPI assessment, and data-driven decisions are emphasized, improving sales performance. Prerequisite: MKT 630.

MKT 632: Sales Management

Duration: 5 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 2

The course focuses on topics such as building and managing an effective sales force (recruiting, training, motivating, compensating, and retaining), and exploring sales force organization strategies (territory) and systems (CRM). Prerequisite: MKT 630.

MGT 330: Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

Duration: 7 Weeks weeks

Credit Hours: 3

The skills, knowledge and abilities to negotiate effectively with others are important to managers and employees in all types of organizations; business, governmental, non-profit, healthcare and professional. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the theory, tactics, and practices that will enable them to negotiate successfully and resolve conflicts. Core subjects include negotiation preparation; distributive and integrative bargaining; strategies and tactics; gaining leverage through power and persuasion; and the influences of ethics, gender and culture. In addition to use of mediation and arbitration techniques to resolve conflicts are presented. The course requires students to learn through active participation in negotiation of actual cases.
