Single-player Server Settings

A single-player server will only have one person playing on it, which is you. With a single-player server, the settings are completely up to you; whatever you can handle is the best option. This includes difficulty and graphics settings.

To initially start your single-player server, head to the option to resume/create a game in the main menu. From here, you will see multiple tabs at the top of the screen, along with "Single Player" and "Non-Dedicated" buttons in the bottom right corner. If you just want to start with the default settings, you can go ahead and press "Single-Player".

The Game Rules default to single-player settings, which means that you don't have to tweak anything if you don't want to.

To tweak the settings, head to the "Game Rules" tab in the center of the menu options. Here, you can change player and creature settings. Be sure to explore around a bit here; there is a lot that you can change. For example, in the "World" tab, you can enable leveling for Speed.

Overall, if you are the only person on the server, you can choose whatever you want.

Non-Dedicated Server Settings

So, you want to play with others. A Non-Dedicated server is private, meaning that you can play comfortably with a group of friends. On these servers, there is a maximum of eight people that can join. Similar to single-player servers, you can tweak any game rules that pertain to people and creatures, but there are some additional settings that you should keep in mind.

One of the most important settings is PvE mode. With this on, the players on the server will work together. If, on the other hand, this is off, the game will be in PvP mode, allowing you to attack other players.

In the "Rules" tab, Game Rules doesn't pertain to single-player servers, but these are important for Non-Dedicated servers. Here, you can enable voice chat and notifications, as well as various rules that effect how players interact with each other.

Overall, the most important thing to decide is if the non-dedicated server is PvP or PvE. From there, you can tweak settings accordingly. The "Advanced" tab has even more settings that deal with these game modes.

In the Engrams tab, you can also remove certain Engrams from the game. This will prevent any player from learning and crafting the specified item.

If you did not create the server, you will not be able to change these Game Rules. For example, if you join an official server, you will not be able to change anything. These are servers created by Studio Wildcard, making them quite safe to play on.

What Settings Reduce Lag?

Performance issues can affect your server in Ark: Survival Ascended, which can be a bit frustrating if you are trying to fully immerse yourself in the game.

After you've already loaded into the map, there are several settings that you can change from the "General" tab of the settings menu. If you struggle with lag and low FPS due to high graphics, consider turning off the following settings.

  • Footstep Particles
  • Light-Shafts
  • Light Bloom
  • Motion Blur

You can also lower the quality of specific things, such as foliage, shadows, and effects. Certain settings require you to reload your game; you can do this by simply heading to the main menu and then rejoining the session.

How To Remove Clouds In Ark: Survival Ascended

Clouds can make or break a game. When you are already struggling with performance issues, you don't need to waste valuable computer power to show a cloud.

Thankfully, you can turn clouds off, but this is not found in the settings menu. Instead, you will need to enable the command console, which is also necessary to use cheats. With the console enabled, press '~'. A bar will open at the bottom of your screen. Here, type/paste the following.

  • r.VolumetricCloud 0

The sky should now be cloud-free, and you may notice a slight performance boost. Disabling clouds has no effect on the weather; it will still rain after they are turned off.

To turn clouds back on, use this command again, but change the number to '1'.
