The Hounds of Khiva History |
We obtained our first Sighthound, a Borzoi in
1964. Two years later, we were fortunate to have one of our Borzoi, CAN,
MEX, AM CH. Sirhan Pobedim
ranked as one of the nation’s top-ten Borzoi. At this time, we
established the kennel name of ‘Khiva'.
In 1970, we acquired our
first Whippet. This Whippet went on to be the foundation for the Hounds of
Khiva's Best in Show line of Whippets. During this time, we also
owned several Greyhounds but never bred them.
Having
always admired their elegance and dignified spirit, we obtained our first
Saluki in 1975. Our first Saluki, Am, Mex. and Ca Ch. Ananda Khovan of Khiva ("Oso") became a group winner,
placer and multiple Best of Breed winner. Valerie won her first Best in
Show with a Saluki in 1981 and later had a very successful campaign with
Multiple BIS and Multiple SBIS Ch. Baklava's Rafi Rasil
of Khiva - he was ranked as the Number 1 Saluki in America in 2002, 2003 and
2004.
The
Khiva Salukis have achieved numerous coursing, obedience,
triathlon, and Canine Good Citizen titles.
The Khiva Salukis have won 11 all-breed Best in Shows (all owner
handled) and have won over 110 Saluki and/or Hound Specialty awards. Additionally, with very limited showing, the
Khiva Salukis have been ranked as a top-ten Saluki in the United States for 11
years.
We continue to show and
breed Salukis under the kennel name of 'Khiva' and could not imagine a life
without them!
